pull on shore
2016
ash, zelkova, cane, brass
Inspired by the Mandarin similes “Pull on shore”, home often refers to the harbour to protect family members from wind and waves (outer interference). I applied this imagery to connect house’s bed and nightstand as the harbour, giving the expression when hosts coming back home and lie on the bed near nightstand just like the boat pull on shore. It is the second piece referring to "reflection of the sea" series. The composition of the tabletop is intended to displace its layers to portray the seacoast and harbours. The hexagon legs project to the tabletop with triangle see-through tenons which refers to tetrapods. The woven-cane tray and other details also reflect the imagery of waves and harbours that overlap each with irregular form. This nightstand states its artistic intensions through presence in the bedroom.
